SUSTAINABLE ENTREPRENEURSHIP

In recent years, Syx Automations Group has invested heavily in energy optimization. Syx Automations achieved these objects by implementing high-technological techniques in several business processes.

SUSTAINABLE ENTERPRISE CHARTER

On 3 March 2011, the Syx Automations Group signed the West Flanders Sustainable Enterprise Charter (West-Vlaams Charter voor Duurzaam Ondernemen) in the music club 4AD in Diksmuide. 15 other companies signed up to the Charter as well and thus declared to be willing to invest in sustainable enterprise. In the presence of Mr Paul Breyne, Governor of the province of West Flanders, the signatories subscribed to the 6 policy principles and the 10 themes of the West Flanders Sustainable Enterprise Charter. In this way, these companies join the other 90 companies that had already set a good example.

The West Flanders Sustainable Enterprise Charter is an initiative of POM West-Vlaanderen, VOKA and Bureau Veritas Certification, with the support of the Flemish authorities and the province of West Flanders. The signatories intend to invest in sustainable actions within their daily management. The Charter helps the companies to structure their policy of sustainable enterprise. In the event of a positive evaluation these companies will receive the annual certificate in 2012.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

Thanks to 691 solar panels that have been installed on the roof of the industrial building, Syx Automations now uses 58% less energy. Syx also put in great effort to reduce heating with natural gas. The production halls and the data centres produce a lot of heat. Through a cooling circuit, the heat produced by both data centres and by the laminators is used to cool the production halls down to 8°C. The heat produced by the production halls and data centres is collected using heat pumps and reused for heating during the winter. The remaining heat is treated by a drycooler principle. This process is called Free Cooling.

The compressor used for production returns 75% of the energy it consumes in the form of warm water having a temperature of 95°C. This warm water is also used for heating and for sanitary facilities.

A gas engine is used for heating and cooling the offices.

Thanks to a central building management system, Syx Automations has a clear overview of all the installations and can control and save all data for further analyses.

STEP 1: INVENTORY

STEP 2: CHOOSING THE TECHNIQUES

STEP 3: LEARN BY MEASURING

Thanks to a building management system, Syx Automations has a detailed overview of the values measured. If necessary, Syx can adapt the system or decide to use other techniques.
